How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® works by blocking nerve impulses that make muscles contract. Injecting this medication into certain facial muscles causes them to be temporarily weakened, reducing their movement. With less movement, the skin over the muscle gradually smoothes out, fading out the frown lines and wrinkles.

How is BOTOX® administered?

Three to eight tiny injections per area are required. Discomfort is minimal and brief, but your skin can be numbed with cream or a cold pack if desired. You may resume normal activity immediately.

How do Chemical Peels work?

Acid peels are a form of chemical dermabrasion. The acid causes the top layers of skin to exfoliate, or peel off, revealing the healthy, new skin underneath. Not all acids are alike. Our doctor will select the chemical that is best for your skin type, as well as the skin condition you wish to treat. Following a chemical peel, your skin may look slightly sun burned or tanned before the peeling begins 2-3 days later. Most people can return to their regular activity immediately after a chemical peel.

How are Chemical Peels administered?

A medical strength acid solution is chosen to treat the needs of your skin. The solution is then brushed on lightly, layer by layer, until the required depth of skin penetration is achieved. A neutralizing chemical solution is then applied over the acid layers to prevent further reaction of the acid with your skin. In general, the stronger the chemical, the deeper the peel, and the more impressive the results. However, the deeper the peel, the more pain one is likely to experience and the longer the recovery time will be. As an alternative, a series of light peels can minimize down time while enhancing your results.

How does IPL work?

Facial phototherapy (FotoFacial®) using intense pulsed light has been shown to decrease redness, minimize broken capillaries, decrease the size of enlarged pores, reduce dark circles under the eyes, lighten age or brown spots, and improve fine lines caused by premature aging or sun damage through stimulation of natural collagen production within the skin. For progressive lifting and tightening of the skin, we use intense pulsed light combined with a gentle radiofrequency current. This procedure tightens your own collagen, and stimulates the production of new collagen for up to six months after treatment.

How is IPL administered?

IPL emits gentle pulses of light energy combined with heat directly onto the skin surface. Most patients feel a heat sensation during the treatment that is not painful. Others may experience slight discomfort, usually described as a momentary sting, or like the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. A topical anesthetic and/or cooling device is available to minimize discomfort. Protective eyewear is used during all phototherapy treatments. Fotofacials are most often spaced three weeks apart, for four to six sessions. Additional touch-up treatments may be necessary to help maintain the desired effect after a year or more.

How does PRP work?

PRP is a type of regenerative medicine that uses a patient’s own platelet cells to rejuvenate the skin and scalp. Platelets contain proteins called “growth factors” that activate and rejuvenate cells in our body. Thus, PRP uses the patient’s natural biology to address skin defects and aging skin, triggering production of new cells and collagen formation.

How is PRP administered?

This cutting-edge treatment involves withdrawing 1-2 vials of the patient’s own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the patient’s area of concern.  The results are a gradual improvement in the injected area over a 2-4 week period. Full correction occurs at 6-8 weeks and can last as long as 18 months.

How do Skin Fillers work?

Restylane and Juvederm contain hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in your body that provides volume and fullness to the skin. These crystal-clear gels are safe, biodegradable and fully biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. Restylane and Juvederm restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines. This type of skin filler is also effective for plumping the lips.

Radiesse is made with smooth calcium hydroxylapatite, which is suspended in an aqueous based gel that stays soft and malleable long after injection. Because calcium is a natural mineral found in our bones, it will not cause any allergic reactions and is completely biodegradable. Additionally, the body naturally grows tissue around Radiesse without absorbing it, keeping the implant in place until it completely disintegrates.

How are Skin Fillers administered?

Tiny amounts of product are injected directly into the skin by an ultra-fine needle. Once implanted, these fillers lift away wrinkles, fill in scar depressions, and enhance cheeks by adding volume and fullness beneath the skin to restore youthful contours. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are instantaneous. To minimize discomfort, we recommend a local anesthestic, especially for treatment around the mouth.
